70XR7 breen buckets What to do?

Hi, Our 70 XR7 has Ivy green buckets that really need to be redone. Had the car since 91 but it may be time. The back seat is nice still. I have noticed posts indicating that redoing them in leather is around $1500 to $1700. That is a lot of $$$$. I also see some vinyl option out there in the $700 to $800 range. FYI our days of showing/being judged so to speak are long over The car has done very well over the decades despite being driven on the street a lot and on drag strips. Just not sure the leather is really needed?? Not sure what to do. Thanks

Has anyone done the vinyl option and how was it?
When redoing in leather was it like the original or was the grain noticeable different?

The only parts of the seats that were leather originally were the center seating and back surfaces of the front seats and just a small headrest area of the rear seat back. So I actually prefer vinyl because the seats all match better.

That’s actually a really good point I hadn’t even thought of or basically forgotten about. The question then becomes who does one go to for the vinyl seat covers in Ivy Green? Another words who would be the best choice? Thanks.

SMS samples are spot-on, and I think their vinyl sets are about $700. But I’ve heard their customer service is terrible and have not yet pulled the trigger.

Did my 68 XR 7 in vinyl several years ago. Have been very happy with it. Vinyl was made by Distinctive Industries ( believe most of Cougar vendors use them). For matching purposes you might consider doing your back seat as well. Foam replacement a must.

For my 70 XR7 in medium brown, the Distinctive Industries vinyl had a splotchy look that didn’t match the seat backs very well. But it was good quality.

Now we ad in foam which means one has to acquire that also. I also wonder who in the Twin Cities area even does auto upholstery ? The front seats in our 71 LT Brougham also need to be re done. About 35 years a ago we had a 67 Buick GS and I had a VoTech do it. They only charge for materials. The kids did a great job Never finished the car and doing the VT thing is not an option any more. Thanks

+1 for Distinctive Industries. I recently recovered the seats (front and back) in my Torino, foam included. Quality and fit were terrific.
