Questions about the 71-3 high back buckets. Any help appreciated:

  1. Is there any difference in the foam between the XR-7 buckets and base/decor seats?
  2. Is 71-3 Mustang foam same as Cougar?
  3. Do 71-3 Mustang and Cougar seat covers interchange?

  1. There is a difference in the earlier years and I believe that still carries over to the 71-3 cars. The XR-7 seats have more padding than the standard seats.
  2. I cannot say for sure but my guess would be no.
  3. Interchange as in will they fit, yes. Interchange as in looking the exact same, no.

If you are asking because of the XR-7 convertible in your signature XR-7 seat covers are unique to the XR-7 models. Nothing else will look the same.

Thanks Randy.

Asking because I’m planning to use Mustang covers on my '71 seats. The repro XR7 covers don’t have the Cat head on the t-bar due to trademark licensing issues, so don’t see the point of spending $1300 to get XR7 covers that aren’t accurate

The Mustang covers are $1000 less, and since the car isn’t a blue chip collectible and is majorly restomodded already - don’t really care about deviation from stock.

I am pretty sure that I have some ginger colored XR-7 seats that are in pretty good condition if you want to stay with the stock look.

Many thanks Randy - however my interior is black.

In black I have a bottom section only and a complete left seat. The left seat has the release knob on the outer side. I would need to pull them from storage to say much about their condition.
