I ordered an XR7 C-pillar badge from ebay in very used condition to try to restore. Even how it is, it’s still an upgrade from what I have. Mine have all of the red gone. Can these be removed by prying them from the outside of the car or do you need to get behind it from inside, removing the head liner etc? Also, I see on the WCCC product description it mentions that the emblems themselves can be touched up from the back. Can anyone tell me how to best remove the back plate? From the pictures it looks like they are preened shut. Thanks for any feedback.

Looks like the emblems themselves have to be removed by accessing ( from the interior ) the attaching 8-32 hex flanged nuts.
I think if you remove the courtesy light on the interior of the C pillar, the nuts holding the emblem in place can be accessed. The emblem itself comes apart quite easily, but it takes a bit of time & patience to redo the red. But worth it, because once done, they look real nice.
I should have added that when reassembling, I just used silicone to hold everything together. This will also help in keeping moisture out.
Thanks for the replies. Good to know there are nuts back there. I’m hoping I don’t have to take too much apart to get to them. I have a good headliner and am mostly concerned about messing that up. Thanks again for the help.
If your car is still put together the way the factory did it then there are no hidden nuts inside the car. You do not need to take anything apart in the interior to remove the emblem from the body. This emblem is held onto the body with what are called tubular or barrel nuts. Those are inserts that pop into holes drilled in the body. All you need to do to remove this emblem is to gently pry it off the car. The mounting studs are located at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. Use a thin blade flat screwdriver and gently start on one side of the emblem to pry it away from the body. Once it starts to move then move the screwdriver to the other side and get it started too. You will want to remove both sides at an equal distance moving back and forth from one side to the other. If you try to get one side completely off without moving the other side you will break off at least one of the mounting pins, maybe both pins. It is really a very easy job.
Once the emblem is off the car and you look at the backside you will see a stainless backing plate that is held in place by 4 pins that are peened over. They will kind of look like a rivot head. You will need to either drill or grind those heads off to remover the backer plate. With that plate off the plastic part of the emblem will be visible under a thin paper like backer. Now you can do your repainting. You will need to use some sort of adhesive to put the emblem back together. Then just push the mounting pins back into the tubular/barrel nuts and you are done.
One side note here, sometimes the tubular/barrel nuts will stay stuck to the mounting pins when an emblem is removed. You will want to remove those tubular nuts from the mounting studs and reinsert them into the car body. Then reinstall the emblem. If the tubualr/barrel nuts are bad most auto parts stores have replacements. Good luck.
