73 XR7 Light Issues

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and am glad I found it.

I just picked up a really nice '73 XR7 vert and noticed a minor (I think) issue. While driving at night, the dash AND taillights will shut off for a second or two (I hear a click under the dash when this occurs) and then come back on.

Any thoughts on where to start? Before you reply, keep in mind I am very mechanically inclined and have restored a few cars over the years. I am just hoping that this is a common problem before I started chasing grounds, etc.

very common problem. light switch overheating. installing a relay and a new switch will solve your problem.

Thanks RUNnWYLD I was hoping that it was a common problem. By the way, the headlights work fine is this still the likely solution? Now if you would like to save me the time to pull out the service manuals, could you tell me where the relay is?
