A/c brackets and pulleys

Trying to reinstall Air Conditioning on my 68 302 does anyone have an accurate picture of the bracket and pulleys

Hope this helps

Thanks Bill ; this is the one that has me confused

In Bill’s third photo, the Compressor and its belt are missing. The compressor mounts on the platform above the power steering pump.

One belt goes to the alternator, another to the power steering pump. These both go around the water pump pulley. Third belt (not shown) goes from the empty sheave on the crankshaft pulley to the idler/adjust pulley, to the compressor, then back to the crank pulley.

Ok think I got it ; but what about this part I have marked A/C on the back of it

According to that engineering number, it is an alternator ( side ) mounting bracket / adapter for a 302 or 351. The “A” version of the adapter was for BEFORE 7/16/71 and the “B” version was for AFTER 7/16/71. I can’t tell from the “AB” engineering suffix if that means it is the “A” or the “B” ( according to Ford’s ‘system’ that would mean changes A through Z were made to this part and then an AA change were all made before this AB version ??? )
The adapter is also specific to body lines A, C, P and Y ( Mercury, Comet/Montego, Comet and Meteor ) but doesn’t show as applicable to Cougars ( F ).
I would suspect that the A/C system ( or some components ) were not original to your car ?

Thanks guys probably a spare mislabeled item ;;
I do have the two brackets in Bills photos thou so hoping to install this weekend PHOTOS HELPED A LOT THANKS AGAIN

Thanks I did check a 70 Torino and it was on the alternator side

Just so that you know, in model year 1968 there were two slightly different brackets, etc… One was February 68 and prior, the other was March 68 and after. I don’t know the exact changeover date, but I figured this out when I was working on a 68 XR-7 built in February 68 and comparing it to my March built XR7-G. The A/C bracketry is different.

Thanks again Bill worked out fine

Thanks! Glad I could help!

Bill can I use a 351W distributor in a 302

No. 351W distributor has 5/16" drive shaft and 302 has 1/4"

351W distributor may be longer as well.

Ok thanks I had one with Per Tronics already in it. I will just swap the guts over

Bill did u make this bracket between the compressor and pulley bracket

Yes I did.

I felt the factory bracket needed support. I used a piece of square 1x2"? stock

Sorry a bit late to the party but here’s some pics of my 68 302 if it helps. I used the alternate style top bracket/pulley combo.

Those brackets are the later version, which I think are better than the earlier version.

Bill not to change the but : you happen to know what a pertronics magnet should be set at ( lost my gauge thinking like .3500

It is imprecise. A match book cover is adequate. The key is to take a look and make sure the shaft doesn’t wobble so much that it hits the Ignitor.
