A/C vacuum canister - how to test if it is functioning?

Hello Cougar Group.

I am working on a 70 Cougar with A/C. I have what looks to be a great condition Vacuum Canister- but want to test before putting into the passenger side firewall area / front fender area. I have been searching but haven’t found a thread to assist in this test.

I appreciate and assistance or thoughts.

BTW - the car is NOT in any sort of running condition, so I can’t live test.

If you have a mityvac, pump the air out of the can and make sure it holds a vacuum. If not, just suck the air out and then plug the opening with your tongue to make sure the can holds the vacuum.
