I never got to do it. The car was stolen and wrecked. It would not be difficult though. Another freind swapped in a toyota drivetrain to his 69 Spitfire. It was a rocket. One thing I like about the Spifires aside from appearance, pretty roomy engine space and easy to work on. My 63 was perfect, not one speck of rust, all new suspension, big fat radials, new interior and top, fun to drive, just not enough engine. It was like driving a go cart on mountain roads. I still miss it.
One thing though, on both we were swapping everything, engine, trans, and rear end as the Original would not take the power. Its all doable without too much cutting.
Thanks for the offer, 600km is a long way, where I am in NZ too. Next time I visit my daughter in Paris, I also promised my cousin who lives in London, that I would try and spend a couple of days with her, so my visit to Europe in July is pretty full on. I can vouch for the roads in the burbs as being very challenging for your Cougar, my son-in-law drove us around in a DS4 Citreon 4dr HB, even then some of the roads were just wide enough for it to drove in. Paris highways are also populated with big inter continental trucks.
Great car - thanks for posting pics.
Anthony,
we already have at least 1 member in France, near Paris. Seb67
if you click on member Locations at the top left on the page, Don’t know about Zakk. Looks like France there too
while there, be sure to add your pushpin too!
Jean
Oldwood: I never thought about that but will definitely consider that idea… it is true that spitfires definitely lack power…
Ceedoubleyou: Well, then you have a pretty good idea of how driving an american car might be in France haha well next time you come over you can plan southern France if you wish
high school xr7: Thank you very much and you’re welcome! more will come soon!
Johnboy: I just added myself on the map Zakk is not in france tho, he is in Jersey or Gernesey, i dont know which one is which but it belongs to britain
I promise i will put a pic of my import tag sunday when i get my camera back!!
Welcome! It’s great you joined the club/obsession. As few Cougars as one ever sees on the road in the States, you must never see another one coming towards you! What do people think it is? People here are often confused by Cougars. Looking forward to those pix! BTW, your English is great!
Hello!
Ive rarely seen any Cougars around here… But a funny fact is that i know another S Code 1967 Cougar, french import as well that is couple miles away from me… It was really good to have those two cars right next to each other. We are trying to trace the history of those cars. Since the american car environment is pretty reduced, i’ve had witnessing of those cars being together 25 years ago, it would be nice to find out the previous owners and have the whole history of those two mates
Thank you very much about my English, i used to live in Phoenix, it sure helped a lot
Welcome to CCC Anthony! Your Cat is a beauty! Thanks for sharing the photos!
Good day Anthony,
That is a cool story about the 67 Cougar. I would be interested to hear what you come up with. Another nice car as well and would be great if you could post pictures of that one too.
Thank you
Mike
Hello everybody, again thanks for the welcoming!
Here are some pictures of my Cougar and my friend’s one. These are two sisters, two 1967 Cougar S Code, that were known to be together about 25 years ago… Now they met again! Its gotta be pretty rare to have two S Code, French imports together lol
wow, talk about contrasting colors? nice!
Hello Anthony,
The other Cougar looks well cared for too. Nice big garage and looks like you have a very nice house. Thank you for the pictures.
Mike
very nice, to have 2 Cougars so close together, I’ve yet to see another '68 here in Auckland, there seems to be the odd "69-'70 in various states of repair. Even the ones for sale are not '67-'68s and they all seem to be XR7’s but in no better condition wise than my Cougar.
Anthony very cool. Thanks for posting the photo. Your car must be a early 1967 Cougar. My build date is May 31, 1967 and your serial number is much lower than my S Code. Do you have a Marti report?
Steven
Hello!
No unfortunately i dont have a Marti Report but i’ll do one soon…
I knew it was an early model because of the GT emblems on the side, but didn’t know it was that early… Don’t know if its a good news or not
As a reference point, mine was built 12/07/66, and the number is 538971. About how many rolled off the line each day?
Gerry
Anthony – Can you tell us what your left door data code plate shows, or better yet post a picture of it ? Also, the import tag – just where on the car is it mounted ? Thanks.
Jim
