A new member, from France!

Hello everybody,

This post is meant to introduce myself. My name is Anthony, i am 20 years old, and i have been a Cougar owner for five years now (i was probably the youngest cougar owner in my country the day i purchased it hahah)

So my ride is a 1967 Cougar, S code with the numbers matching 390 Marauder and the Merc-O-Matic Select shift transmission. As far as i know it is not fully loaded with options but it has some nice features, such as the center floor console, opera light lenses, the GT package, and that’s pretty much it… But what a nice car, i totally fell in love with it…
A funny fact about this car. It was imported brand new in France (i have a Ford France metal tag on the front fender) and it actually titled as a Ford Cougar, since Mercury didnt have any official dealers in my country.

Original color was burgundy red, with a black vinyl top (i’ve got some rust around the rear windiw thanks to it) and black interior. Today it is bright yellow , still has the black interior and the vinyl disappeared.

I have redone the whole interior now, with WCCC, it was great to find all of those parts available, even if i have been disappointed by the quality of some of them. I try to put my car as much as possible as it was when it left the plant.

here is a picture i made the day i purchased it, it was just sitting by a lost road…

That’s how it is now… (note that i took the original steering wheel when i got it, but thankfully i kept it, it is going to be back in the car soon

There is a pic of the interior now

The upholstery is still the original, so i cleaned it and kept it, it is still in perfect condition!

Welcome. Car looks great. Love the colour

Welcome to the communiity and thanks for posting pictures of your cat :beerchug: Very nice looking car :smoke:

Welcome! Congratulations on having such a nice (and unusual) Cougar!

Welcome to the forum Anthony, the yellow really stands out! In regards to options, I noticed in the 4th pic a second switch on your drivers side door jamb just below the courtesy light switch, that’s for tilt wheel. John

Welcome to the Classic Cougar Community. It’s great to have another member. I’d love to see a picture of your Ford France tag on the fender. When you have a chance could you please take a picture of the tag and post it. Thanks.
Steven

Welcome and nice car. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 67/68 with a kilometer speedometer. Very cool. Thanks for sharing!!!

Bon Jour and welcome, colour is very nice, like a slap in the face but I like it. Thats an awesome find at 15 years old. I’ll be doing some driving in France this summer with my XR7. Off to Normandy for my annual D-day road trip in June. :beerchug:

Thank you all for the comments and welcome!

I like the yellow color, but i think it will be better in burgundy red and black vinyl top

Great news for the tilt away column option!! Ive had this car for five years and no one here has ever been able to tell me that!!!

I will definitely take a picture of the ford tag and the kilometer speedometer, the car is not home, not enough room in the garage… but i was supposed to go see it today so ill just bring my camera!!

Suprahuman: I guess i will see you in two years! my dad and I have a 1943 Jeep Willys and we usually drive all the way up to Normandy to commemorate Dday

Welcome and a way cool car. I bet there are not many in France. How are the roads there and what is the speed limit?

wow, a Cougar in France, who would’ve thought, welcome. How far is Toulouse from Paris, as I hope to be visiting my daughter in July. BTW, I only recently discovered what that 2nd door jamb was for, thanks to this forum. I hope to resurrect the tilt away steering wheel sometime this year. I just checked the map, Toulouse is in the South of France.

Well i went to visit my Cougar yesterday, drove it for an hour, still feels like the first day!!
I took the pictures of the French tag but forgot my camera over there… I hate myself!

Oldwood: Roads in France are a bit tiny… Lets say that you have to brake every time a car comes across… With the Cougar its not that bad, but i also own a Full Size and thats a problem here… You can only really enjoy it on the highway…
Speed limits are: 50 km/H downtown (around 30 miles per hour), 90 km/H out of town (around 55 mph) and 130km/h on the highway ( 80 mph)

Ceedoubleyou: Toulouse is 600 km (370 miles) away south of Paris… For us french people it is far, i bet for you guys it’s not that bad  If you plan on taking a trip around the country, southern france has some very nice places to offer, i’d be glad to tour you around with the Coug’

The speed limits are about the same here and the roads in New england are close to what you describe. What is your full size car?

I imported a 1970 Ford Galaxie Sportsroof. I bought it last summer when i was in Pheonix AZ on vacation, used it over there and shipped it back home with me! I also have a 1979 Mercury Capri with the 2.8 Litres that i bought in Switzerland, i use it as a daily driver

Good morning Anthony, well its 7:20 am here. I like Capris. I have ever sense seeing Jacky Stewert blowing everything off the track at Watkins Glen back in eary 70s. I bet gas is high there can understand the 2.8 driver!

Is your 70 a 2 dr.? I like that body style too. I used to drive a 429 car on a regular basis. It was my old girlfreinds.lol Many years ago.

Good morning

My Capri is the second generation, based on fox bodies. I used to hate those but this one was about to go to a junkyard and be crushed… So i decided to save it and i dont regret it for a second… I love it!!

Two years ago, while i lived in the US everybody was asking me how expensive was gas in France, back then, converting euros and liters into bucks and gallon, the price was 8.5 bucks a gallon…

And yes it is a 2 doors hard top with the sportsroof (lind of a fastback, it is very nice!!) Mine has only the 390, same engine as my Cougar, and its already pretty nice and soooo comfy!! Its gotta be great to drive a 429, i didnt even know they were mounted on galaxies!

We complain when it gets towards 4.00 here,8.50 ouch. The sport roof is sharp looking and 390 is a great engine. I do prefer the older v6 capris. At one time I had a perfect 63 Spitfire I was going to swap in a complete V6 Capri drive train instead of the weak 4 cyl.
What time is it there?

Right now it is 2 pm

In Europe, we had ford capris that were made in Germany, they were great cars in Rally championships with the 2600 RS!!

I am following a Spitfire right now, a neighbor thinks avout selling it and i put a bid on it… Its a 1968 Mk3! Tha V6 idea is a great idea! was the swap difficult?
