So I rebuilt the hinges on the passenger side door of my car with the door off. In the process of trying to get the upper hinge back on the car, the plate that the hinge bolts into slipped and fell down into the void. I finally got that fished back up but in the process lost a little punch that I had been using down in there as well Is there some way to install this thing and retrieve the pin punch?
Cut the head off a spare bolt put it in by hand, with the head missing the hinge will go over it once you put one of the regular bolts in you can remove the cut off one and put the regular one in.
Thanks. I’ll be working at it tomorrow so hopefully I can get the pin punch out of there somehow and get the hinge in place.
Okay I think I got it figured at least how to put the door hinges on. There’s a bracket for the bracket if that makes sense and I couldn’t get that all situated properly just through the face of the a pillar. I just pulled off the dash pad and there is an access hole for putting that into place. We’ll see how it goes I haven’t actually worked on it.
The hinge bolt plate fits into some hooks inside the jamb. You might need to bend the hooks a little to help hold the plate in place. To retrieve your punch you could try using a telescoping magnet. I have found that to be a handy tool for such jobs.

Okay so I got the door hinge in place as well as the door. What is the best way to adjust the door? I didn’t mark anything prior to removal. Not real smart. I partially have removed the fender. Is that going to be the best way to do it? On a 1970 do you need to take off the headlight bracket to remove the fender?
I was always told to adjust from the back forward. Adjust the door to the quarter and rocker then adjust the fender to the door.
