My existing sway bar (came with 289 in car) was a bit tight on the 390 oil pan and filter, and getting a BB replacement was on the list for some time.
I finally went down to W.C.C.C. and picked up the listed ‘Comp handling BB’ unit only to find it will not clear the TCP strut rods.
I don’t blame Don, the TCP rods are pretty stout, but I did some research and found threads where Mustang guys had troubles even with stock strut rods.
The TCP rods overlap a good 1/2" on the ADDCO sway bar, so I think stock rods would at least rub/clip the bar on the way up
Anyone have troubles, or a good suggestion on a replacement? I can move the existing one forward in the mounts to clear the pan and filter I think, but it’s tight and skinny, and eventually I will add a rear sway.
I have no idea. I have a Heilwig on the front of my small block '68 and no issues as far as clearance. Sounds like you are having what is usually a “me” day as this type of thing usually happens to me.
Both Hellwig and TCP do not specify the BB clearance issue. The bar rubs on the front of the oil pan and a corner touches the oil filter. Not much, but enough to scuff paint as it moves.
ADDCO on the other hands says it’s a wider than stock bar to clear the oil filter on BB, but that is a different bend from the one that won’t clear the strut rod.
Since I already have the TCP rods, arms and motor mounts, I expect their bar will fit, for $300

I’ll have to see what kind of wiggle room I get on the mounts with the old one for now…ya, one of those days.
I had trouble with my Hellwig bar hitting the TCP strut rods. Worked with both Hellwig and TCP and they came to the conclusion that the Hellwig bar wouldn’t work with the TCP strut rods. I had the largest Dia bar they offered as well. Had to exchange it for the TCP sway bar that was bent different and a little smaller Dia.
