Is there nothing between the front fender and tire? Not on my car… Not that I drive on gravel lately, but wouldn’t that lead to dents from the inside out? Or is there an inner fender I should have?

vertical plastic splash shields at the front and rear of the fenders. Nothing but under coating on the bottom the fender. Assuming that you have a 1969 Mercury Cougar?
