69 Eliminator stock AM radio, I can’t get the control knobs off? Don’t they just pull off? I don’t want to pry too hard, what am I missing?
They should pull off. Start with the inner knob then the outer. pull it straight off so it doesn’t come off unevenly.
I thought they just pull off but I wanted to be sure, mine must be stuck on, sorry for a stupid question. Thank you
I’ve had them stuck on before. To the point of having to break them to get them off. The reproductions are nice and odds are chrome on the originals is tired anyway.
The radio knobs have a metal clip that fits inside the shaft hole. This clip has some spring to it and sometimes if someone bent more spring into the clip it can be harder to get the knob off the shaft. This same type of clip is also used on the windshield wiper switch knob. If you have a small hook type tool with a 90 degree bend on the end you might be able to slide the tool in beside the outer knob and use the 90 degree bend to pull up on the spring clip which will help release it.

Just remember, the only stupid question is the one that doesn’t get asked. You might try to spray a little WD-40 at the shafts.
