Another Shock Thread-1969 Heavy Duty Suspension

I now need to replace all 4 shocks on the Cougar. The front drivers has the rubber bushing all worn out and the knock is very audible. While at it I will do all 4. My ride is a 1969 XR7 vert S code close ratio 4 speed w/heavy duty suspension on it. Power disc up front and drums in the rear.

I checked at NAPA yesterday but they don’t have the heavy duty suspension shocks available.

Are there some suggestions for:
1----where to get them
2----Best ones available–I don’t need to go concourse here, but if there is a close model available to what came stock and is a good shock, I’m in.
3----I believe the original color would have been black, or is it gold color? I could always paint them to match.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Rockauto . com shows Motorcraft model # ASHV993 as the front shock for standard and heavy duty suspensions on a 69 with a 390.

The rear for a heavy duty suspension is a little harder to find at the moment.

Thank you for the valuablel intel.

If you enjoy driving it just go buy some KYB or koni gas shocks. Paint them black to look like stock and enjoy the better handling. Judging concurs would be the only reason to have originals.

Agreed. Not sure I will even paint them. KYB gas adjust is what I’ll be going with.

I have all grab a trak shocks and coils. I love em. Ride isn’t too harsh and it hooks onto corners. Gonna use the grab a trak leafs in the back when i have money for it too. But I don’t know too much about different brands and stuff. I just know that I like what I have.
