There’s an article on a 71 mercury cyclone spoiler. Awesome car. Grille was designed with a circle in the middle so you can change out a cam without taking the grille apart. But the coolest part is they talk about a 70 eliminator boss 302. He got the cyclone because he got in too much trouble with the cougar (and also blew up the motor… bummer.)
Anyway I just thought it was cool It’s in the may issue of Muscle Car Review. So here if you guys wanna read it.
Cool read thanks for posting it.

I love those cars. I’ll have to pick that up.
I never heard the factoid about the grille/cam before. Pretty neat. Thanks.
“The most interesting part of the design is the round hole in the center of the grille. Larry was a hot rodder and a drag racer in his early days, and his idea was to make a grille to help out his buddies working on their cars at the dragstrip. Shinoda’s grille design allows them to pull out a camshaft right through the center hole.” - Muscle Car Review
Pretty interesting stuff. I love this car.
Yeah, I read that too! Made me wonder what ever happened to that Boss Cat.
? Never heard of the cam thing before and you’re still gonna have to pull the radiator. Once the radiator is out, my guess is that you’d have enough room to install a cam for a V-16 or maybe even two of 'em welded end to end. Hey, then maybe it would stick out the center of the grill.
I never had a problem replacing a cam in a cougar, without pulling the grill, and the engine compartment is bigger on these cyclones.
Ya that it true haha. Glad you had no problem swappin cams and leaving your grille in tact because I’m going to need to pull mine out to ID the numbers before I upgrade heads. But it is still a cool design feature. The car was made for muscle thats for sure and thats what I love about it.
Anyway… wish I had that 70 boss eliminator too!
