Anyone rebuilt a 4300 carb?

On my 2nd order for a carb rebuild kit from the local auto parts store, 1st one had the wrong gaskets. There are no distinguishing numbers or tags on the carb, just says motorcraft and obviously a 4bbl. Tomorrow i’m driving down to a carb rebuilding shop to see if they have something in stock. First kit was $25, next one enrout is $20,and the last choice available is $75. Luckily the parts store accepted my return of the first kit even though it was opened. :beerchug:

If you give me a year make and model and engine size I may be able to come up with a carb kit part number. I just rebuilt a 4300 for a 1969 cougar with a 351 4v 4300

I’m not sure its a 4300, I have yet been able to get a correct gasket set for the rebuild kit. Its in my 1973 351C Q XR7 Vert.[album]384[/album] If my upload worked you can see the 2 gaskets in question. The only identification on the carb is “motorcraft” there is nothing else. Every kit I have ordered, including the 433B today the gaskets are smaller than what I have currently. :xolicon42:

Are the pics you uploaded for the gaskets that came in your kit or your old gaskets?
Maybe a few pics of your carb might help

There may be a stamping on the base at the LF of the carb. I would expect maybe
D3ZF-MA

the pic’s are of the old gaskets. I can’t finD anything stamped anywhere except a PE A. As you can see the 4300 kit gaskets don’t match the exising and I can’t find anything similar in my search of motorcraft carbs. Give me a sec for pictures of the carb

This looks like it should work for you. I am still trying to see if I can come up with a NAPA or carquest #

Carquest part number might be 585A

Thanks Lew, the gaskets look correct and Bennett is telling me 585a also. I appreciate all the help :beerchug:

Check this out only 20 bucks.

I use standard motor’s parts all the time. I can at least vouch for the quality as being good enough for me.

Just an update after all the back and forth. We pulled the carb back off to see what we did wrong or missed, maybe we didnt get the floats set right the first time so redid those. What we did find is when we went to replace the gasket between the manifold and carb with the one in the kit (original had no signs of wear and kits gasket was much thicker) there was a spacer plate ( for lack of the correct term) that the EGR bolted on to, there was no gasket between the bottom of that plate and the manifold. Hmmmmm. So we took the old gasket (not right sized ) and placed it beteen the manifold and spacer, then took the kit gasket and put it between the carb and the spacer. Well cranked the car over and sounded like a rod knocking but understand the gasket isnt the correct one. But the car runs 95% better, no die’n out when mashing the accelerator and runs much better. Off to find the right fit gaskets to get it back to 100%. The last day of vacation and there is serious progress finaly lol. Ordered both the upper and lower gaskets from WCC, not to mention some other stuff, glad I had that 10% discount coupon !

Good luck with that carb. I put a 4100 on my 67 289 in place of the 4300 and it made a night and day difference.

One day I will get around to working on the 4300 to see how well it can actually work.
