I am looking at running the 17" Torq Thrust II using a 7" wide (4" Back Spacing) on the front and 8" wide (4.07" Back Spacing) on the rear on a '68 Cougar.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think the Cougar has much more fender overhang on the rear than the front, which tends to make the aftermarket wheels stick out too far on the front.
Does anyone run this combination and could share your experience with clearance, the tire size you are running front and back, and especially some pictures? I would appreciate it.
I am planning all stock suspension except for the lowering springs on the front.
Not exactly to your specs your looking at but this is mine on 17x7 4”BS 225 front and 17x8 4.5” BS 245 rear. Front is lowered in total just shy of 2” with springs and Shelby drop. Rear is lowered 1” with a block.
Also think there is a tire and wheel thread around here somewhere that has several examples posted
Still got room in the rear for more rubber. Will change the tire size on the next set.
I chose to go with the AR torq thrust IIs, in a 0mm offset 17x7 (4” bs). I was originally going to run 17x8 rears but I got a deal on the 17x7s that I absolutely could not refuse so I went with 7s all around. The rear tires are 245/50 and the fronts are 215/55s (Sumitomo). I want to lower the front a tad more but I’ve been really lazy and haven’t done it (I’ve cut 1/2 coil off when I had it apart). I occasionally get some rub on the rears with a rolling bump hit at speed, I believe it ever so slightly touches the fender lip. I don’t drive the car enough to really worry about it.
