AOD Swap

I’ve poked around on the web site some, a lot of the AOD info is 2 years or older, looking for newer info.
I’ve got a 69 Conv. with a 351W, W/ a mass flo EFI, W/ an fmx and 3.55 gears and a posi.
1)Does anyone know of anyone offering a compleate AOD swap kit? (saw one in kar krafters… anybody tried them?)
2)AOD or AODE? preferances?
3)Are the lock ups preset or are they adjustable?
4) Drop springs, front, 1.5/2" suggesstions?
Thanks!

Go with the AOD and not the AODE. Keep one thing in mind: the tv cable not only controls the shift points, but also line pressure so one misadjustment can burn the transmission up. The solution? a constant pressure valve body. They run about $200-$300 depending on where you purchase it. This will convert the tv cable to a kickdown/shift point cable. Also you will want to rebuild/build it to handle more power. Although failure prone stock (mainly due to the tv cable being out of adjustment), they can be built to handle quite a bit of power. The other advantage with the valve body is firmer shifts. As far as lockup being adjustable, I had an AOD in my T-Bird and never heard of or saw an adjustment for lockup.

I ran an AOD in my 68 for a few years before switching to a T5. Overall, it’s not a bad transmission once you get it set up right. The TV cable adjustment on a carb can be problematic because it’s so sensitive. Get yourself a 60 or 80 psi pressure gauge to do the adjustment. The psi you’re looking for is a the low end of the scale so the 100psi gauges don’t help much. Also, be ABSOLUTELY certain that you have the correct AOD flexplate. The older 164 tooth flexplates might seem to fit, but they have a slightly greater offset and will destroy the front pump on an AOD within seconds of starting the car. Ask me how I know.
