Are these wheel cyliners ok?

Hi,

The inspection I had on my 68 Cougar says I need wheel cylinder replacements on my rear drums; I took the wheels off and looked for myself tonight and here’s what I found. There’s evidence of some brake dust on the one and the other appears to have a film on it but no evidence of any leaking fluid - are these guys giving me an honest opinion here? Sure appreciate some input on this!

Pull the rubber boot away from each side of each rear wheel cylinder, and tell us what you see in there.

Have someone press the brake pedal for you while you watch the brake shoe. If it expands and contracts OK and doesn’t leak you’re good to go.

They are so cheap to replace, that I would throw a couple of new ones in there regardless.

Fair enough; I have to bleed the brakes anyway. Hopefully I can get the new ones in without taking the whole brake apart - I don’t have any of the drum brake tools. Seems to be a few good videos on this sort of thing on youtube. Thanks!

Got it done tonight; it was very easy, I only had to remove the springs and the emergency cable to get the cylinders out. Will bleed the system as soon as I get my other brake parts done. Thanks again!
