Auction Week 2025 - Fantasy Bid

Happy New Year! It’s time for the annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Cougar Fantasy Bid. But, what the heck, no Cougars up for auction at BJ as of today’s date. Or maybe I just can’t find any with BJ’s new website design. Regardless, Mecum Kissimmee has a number of nice looking Cats, including my selection for this year’s fantasy bid - a 1970 BOSS 302 Eliminator, manual four speed transmission, super drag-pak with an added, rare two-speed rear end (Hone-O-Drive).

1970 Boss 302 Eliminator

Place your bid…

I’ll award your choice of a $50 WCCC credit or donation to this site in your name to the person who fantasy bids closest on Mecum Lot U116 – Boss 302 Eliminator.

Eligible bids need to be posted here before the car gets on stage. Only one entry per person. Use the “hammer” price before commissions. Closest can be over or under, but under wins in the event of a tie. You can edit your bid, so long as you do it before the car hits the stage. Looks like it will cross the block on Sunday, January 19. If someone has a good estimate of time, let us know (Dave - are you watching?). Void where prohibited. Judge’s ruling is final. Your mileage may vary.

Other Cougars up for auction are listed for conversation purposes - not part of the fantasy bid:

1967 390 GT

1969 XR-7 Convertible

1970 M-code Eliminator

1973 XR-7 Convertible
1973 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible for Sale at Auction - Mecum Auctions_gsMQ…&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5Y6X2PXkigMVLYKDBx0K_DSiEAAYASAAEgJWq_D_BwE

1979 XR-7

I bid $165,302.

My swag for time on Sunday the 19th of January is within 10 minutes of 1 o’clock eastern time plus or minus.
It has a reserve so I do not believe it will sell.

Oh and just to clarify, the car was built on my birthday, 1/20/1970 and it definitely did not have the 2 speed rear axle installed during the 1970’s as it was first reported to the registry in the early 1980’s and did not have the 2 speed then.

Now that I have my Cougar on the road I’d like to cruise down to Tucson this year.
Does the meetup still happen or am I out of luck? (I know this is for the FL auction)

Im thinkin markets a bit unsettled, so Im gonna go low & say $88,500 sadly

$114500
People are ready to spend spend spend…the economy is up…Walt Disney attendance is way up. That’s how I base the economy.

For the SDP Eliminator, I gotta go $135k. It’s been offered on eBay for $135k or so, so I figure it should find a new owner at a big auction for about the same number.

$135k

I’m guessing $98,750.

The Cougar Club has hosted gatherings in the past, but I don’t know if anything has been set for this year. Club president Gavin would know: chair@cougarclub.org

I’m guessing the bidding stops at $125K…

I always seem to overbid on the fantasy bid contests. Just proves my fantasies are more fantastic than others…
