Battery Terminal Corrosion

I am constantly getting corrosion on the negative terminal of my battery.

See attached pic. About 3 weeks ago i pulled the battery, gave it a thorough cleaning, soaked the negative cable end in a baking soda solution for a couple hours before cleaning and covered everything with dielectric grease when i put it back together.

I have a PA performance alternator - tested and charging at 14.7 right after start and dropping to 14.2 after a while. So i don’t think it’s an alternator problem.

I keep the car on a battery tender when not being driven.

Can anyone suggest where to look or what to do to get this to stop?

It looks like you did everything that should be done/checked I use the dielectric greese and for the most part it works Permatex sells a battery terminal coating product that comes in a small spray can that looks blueish to purple when applied and is a bit more heavy duty than dielectric greese.

That’s a bit of an oldie Optima ya got there! Looks like the Gates Mfg ones.

The only suggestion I have is to try w/ out the tender.

My vert is not used as often as one should, but after a month or more it cranks & fires. No tenders
Others Cats w/out clock or stereos should do the same.

Maybe the old battery is going, but gel cel’s shouldn’t give off that much around the breather ports.
