BBCat takes a hit from Mother Nature

The Nor’easter that brought 10" of heavy, wet snow to our area left its mark on BBCat. The Cougar is parked in an enclosed trailer alongside our garage and sits under a cover. But that didn’t protect it from a large branch that broke off a nearby tree.

The branch came down, broken end first, and basically speared right through the roof of the trailer, after which it deeply dented in BBCats roof. The roof is dished right in from the windshield header back about 2/3 and running from side to side. I have pictures that I’ll post once I have Internet access again from home (we’ve been running on generator power since 1:00 AM Sunday morning) or can load them on my office computer. It even ripped the cover apart at the impact point.

So now begins the claim and repair process… (sigh)

My condolences Bill. Hopefully it can be repaired without too much difficulty.

So sorry Bill! Here’s hoping it’s not as bad as it looks for you. You’ll get 'er fixed up.

I hate to hear about your misfortune. Hopefully everything will get back to normal for you quickly. Wish you the best when you deal with your insurance.
Steven

Tree, Chainsaw… Chainsaw, meet Tree. I would not be lacking for fire wood after an event like that.

Ouch!!!
That’s too bad, hope you get her fixed up.
Could have been worse the whole tree could have come down.

Really sorry for you.

Wasn’t even a cheap tempo shelter. Chalk it up to really rotten luck.

Catvert II coming right up

Good thinking Leon! Maybe this was fate.

That’ll buff right out!

Seriously, tho, sucks the luck, there. Hopefully, the repair will go smoothly, from claim, to close.

Ouch!
Good luck with everything, hopefully all will go well.

My collector car insurance requires that my car be in the garage to be covered. Did you have to get a rider for coverage for storage in the trailer?

I have BBCat on my main car insurance policy with my other cars. It is not on a collector car policy and the insurance company didn’t push back when I explained what happened while filing the claim.

That’s great to hear!

Bill, that is great news! They gave me a hard time when I put mine in the mini storage. I have to take pictures of the fence the gate, everything.

Bill sorry to see this happen. Crazy weather here in the NE for October. Hope the fix goes well and it’s back together soon.

A few years ago I took down a 40’ tree on the side of our house. It was slowly dying and that winter during a ice storm a branch broke off and fell right through the neighbors brand new Saab’s windshield. What a mess. We have Nationwide and they said unless the branch was rotted they would not pay the claim. Well the branch was rotted LOL. They said they’d send someone out to inspect it then so I took pics of it stuck in the windshield of the car then pulled it out of the poor Saab’s windshield. And left it in the neighbors yard for inspection. They paid the claim and NEVER came to inspect the branch. Neighbor was a good sport about it but I felt terrible about it. Soon as spring came I hired the tree guys and took it down. Houses are so close together here they had to use a crane to lower most of it as they cut it down. No room to drop the branches safely.

I definitely have a sense of suspense as to what Liberty Mutual will do once the adjuster examines the car and the trailer. The claims representative gave no indication that there would be any issue and confirmed that we won’t be charged separate deductibles for each vehicle (trailer and car). But I won’t really rest easy until we agree on the damages and I have a check in hand.

The adjuster for Liberty Mutual just left. She turned out to be a nice girl who’s father recently restored a '57 Chevy. She based her appraisal on the NADA average retail value of $33K to justify the repair costs and took a copy of the Marti report, pictures of the JCC price page for the vinyl top and headliner, and the information from the WCCC parts catalog for the roof panel. We sat together and called all the shops that would be involved in the repair of both the Cougar and the trailer for estimates and she made it clear that we can contact her as the repairs progress if adjustments to the estimate are needed. She also told me I’ll have a check in hand by the end of next week.

Overall, the repair bill is going to be in the range of $6-8K for the Cougar and $3K for the trailer.

That is great news. It isn’t even my car, and I was holding my breath. I don’t know what is worse, the actual accident, or the dealings with the insurance companies.
