My '68 does not have a BELT reminder lamp. Apparently the previous owner took it out and never replaced the system. I have purchased a new lamp socket but can not find a timed-delay-to-off relay for this; you turn the ignition switch on and the instrument cluster BELT light is suppose to turn on, then off after a few seconds.
Has anyone tried using or adapting a new style time delay relay for this, like those used in today’s cars? What kind? Where to find?
Multi-Functional 3V-18V Time Delay Relay (Timer) 5 amp
Google this…I have used several….can configure many different ways….let switched accessory current be your trigger and you can vary the delay on function. Very versatile
I used to work on corporate jet aircraft. There were timer relays commonly used for various purposes. They were remarkably unreliable. Typically they would not ground the aircraft or cause an issue that would cancel a trip but they were pretty annoying. I changed lots of them.
Typically the ones used by Fomoco / Lincoln / Mercury were built to a much higher standard. They are just about bulletproof. I don’t imagine anything built since then is made to a higher standard of quality. Extremely reliable parts. Hard to find a failed one.
