Best Carburetor for 289?

Looking to replace my carburetor on my 68 XR7 with a 289. Any suggestions?

If it’s a '68 XR-7 it would have had a 302 originally. The 289 was not an option unless someone swapped it in there after the fact. Are you sure?

Is it a 2V or a 4V?

Is it single exhaust or dual?

Are you planning an intake swap or not?

Yes. It was swapped out. 4V. Dual exhaust.

You can’t go wrong with an autolite 4100 carb. Bullet-proof, easy to tune, readily available (parts and whole carb).

2nd that.
1.08" venturi is generally for the 289, 1.12" venturi normally came on 390’s.

Years ago, I sent a 1.12" to Pony Carburetors for a spreadbore conversion.

If it’s a mostly stock 289 a Holley 500 CFM 2 barrel works fabulous on the stock intake. I drove a '67 like that for several years. It was stock except for headers and dual exhaust.

If an intake change is in the cards then a Holley 600 CFM 4 barrel is an outstanding choice for performance as well as gas mileage. My daily driver for 10 years was a '67 XR-7 with a 289, Torker intake, headers and a Holley 600 CFM 4V. It had 100,000 miles when I bought it in 1978. It had 400,000 miles on it when I sold it in 1979. The engine was rebuilt once but the same intake and carburetor performed flawlessly the entire time.
