I finally figured out my resistor wire problem in my 69 hardtop (thanks to rocketman and to Mark P). Since the dash is out and the cluster is almost out, what are the recommendations for LED dash lights? I put LEDs in a few years ago and they really aren’t that bright. What is everyone using?
I put LED lights in the dash years ago. Heat from the incandescent bulbs was showing effects on the circuit board/film. I used a kit I picked up from a local Mustang shop. They were too bright and didn’t draw enough current for the dimmer resistor on the light switch to have any effect. I ended up adding a resistor box with resistors in series to drop the voltage to the bulbs and some parallel resistors to draw more current through the dimmer. Hopefully, you can find bulbs that will work without all this. What ever you use, I recommend checking brightness and the dimmer function before reinstalling the dash.
Look at HiPo Products, hipoparts.com. Every bulb in my car is from them, except , the tail lights and head lights. Have not converted them yet. Very pleased with fit and function. Dash dims nicely. They have been installed for about three years.
You must use an incandescent bulb in the alternator indicator lamp system. LED’s with polarity may cause problems in oil and brake master cylinder indicator lamps.
I replaced all my bulbs with Plasma LED from WCC, the tail light were fantastic , but the dash lights weren’t as bright as i thought they should be ?
Certainly 100% better than original, but didn’t go as bright as i was expecting.
