Any advice on which is the correct thermostat for the 351C engine? WCCC
has the 180 degree #41408 to use in conjunction with a “water restriction” plate #53234? Is this the right choice? They also carry the Concours 180 degree thermostat #30466 to be used with "30465 or "33970 water restriction plate? Anyone with experience on either? any advise? thanks!
Personally the restriction plate is probably in your 351C already. It will overheat if it isn’t there. I would use a Motorcraft 192 degree thermostat.
#30466 is the correct Robert Shaw style thermostat. I would argue that the correct temp is 192 rather than 180 though. You can get alternate temps here:
Your engine should already have the restrictor plate in place, but if not, #30465 is the correct replacement.

Besides the correct thermostat, what is the correct orientation when replacing it in the housing? The “Rat Cat” came with a new aluminum radiator that I haven’t installed yet. When I get to that point does the dome part of the stat go down or up in the housing? Sorry I’m a dummy😕
Brass colored disc goes down so that it plugs the opening in the restrictor plate when thermostat opens.
You were right, the restrictor plate was already in
place. I purchased the correct Robert Shaw thermostat and all is well. Thank you all for responding and for your helpful advice, much appreciated!
