Black and Purple wire

Does anyone know where/what this is for? Black wire and Purple Wire. I cannot find this on the schematic, thanks

I will post a picture one I figure out how

Here is the wire

What kind of toaster are you working on? LOL! Please add your car to to your signature without knowing the year body style and model (even the engine and a few options can really help) it is really hard to give accurate advice.

The toaster (lol) I am working on is a 1967 XR7-390GT cougar. With AC standard radio

Thanks larry

The plug on your wire does not look like anything that Ford put there. I believe that you will find that it is for something aftermarket.

Could it be for the heater motor.

No.

I am 100% sure that is a stock wire, there is nothing sliced in or cut on the under dash harness that I can see.

If you look on the right hand side, about midway down from the top, of this photo of a 67 XR7 under dash harness from WCCC you can see the same type of connector, but it’s got green and yellow wires to it. So the connector is at least stock. It’s just from another portion of a harness.

In fact, I believe you can see that exact connector and wire combo under the “g” in “Cougar.”

Post a picture of the end of the connector

There’s a pic of it in the #3 post Randy.

No ,I seen that, I mean the tip is it a single female spade connector .

Follow the wires. What are they connected to on the other end?

If I think of it tonight I’ll look under the dash of my GT and see if I can add so info. I almost think it plugs into the solenoid for the tilt column, but not sure.

I think you’re on the right track Brian. I’m sure it’s for an accessory of some sort. Could be tilt or rear defogger. I know in 68 that the rear defogger was a triangle plug but since 67 was a completely different system, it could also have a different connector. If memory serves, that is the same kind of connector that was used in 70 for automatic seat back releases.

Looking at the wiring schematic and the wires under my dash. It doesn’t look like it’s anything to do with the tilt column.
The only wire I see that color is plugged into my seatbelt warning buzzer which mounts at the bottom of the fuse panel. My plug has violet and green together and in the wiring schematic it shows that violate and green #520,450. I guess I don’t know why yours has violet and black but it’s something to look at anyways. Pictures aren’t real good but you can see the plug in the picture. I was snapping them blind with my phone camera.

Try this plug. It looks like it might be the same.

The plug that is in the harness picture goes to the side of the ignition switch and is part of the brake warning light. Most of the harness’s are two violet wires but I have had some with the violet and black wire.
