Hi Guys,
i have the engine out of my 69 vert,
I recall some rattle-gratting noise wen i turned on my air con.
is this likely to be the blower motor failing or the “ hamster cage” in the heater box be beginning to give up ?
Can i replace either or both by removing the blower motor from the engine bay side ?
your thoughts please….
On A/C cars the blower motor is under the dash. Usually it is the motor. The cage is sometimes difficult to remove due to rust on the shaft. Motor is avail from Rockauto
Do i need to remove the heater etc to replace these units …
Sadly the big box (with heater core & a/c) must be removed or undone to allow the fan assembly to come out. I find it actually easier to remove heater box assembly then the fan assembly. The fan fits inside the heater flange, thus it kinda locks it into place. Either way it is one of the most time consuming jobs on these old Cats & the most painful. Pull the pass seat or both makes it easier on the back & butt.
It also helps to disconnect the lower dash on the pass side to allow the lower dash to move up a bit when pulling the heater box. There are 2 1/2 head bolts w/ a 90degree bracket by the door post. Also a curved brace just left of the blower assembly that should come out. Held in place by 2 more 1/2 head bolts.
Take your time & don’t force it, you will break the brackets on the 2 assemblies. They have 7/16 head flange nuts on the fire wall.
Pay attention to voltage polarity when you wire it back. My prior owner hooked mine up backwards. It didn’t blow much air until I reversed it.
its looking to get put into the too hard basket.
Il worry about wen it finaly fails
