Has anyone here installed the Borgeson power steering conversion with a 69 Tilt Away column?
Did you have to modify the column at all?
Thanks

Yes. If I remember correctly I had to cut off about an inch of the column bottom in order to connect up to the borgeson unit.
Unit works great with no issues. I have headman shortie headers, but I had to cut off the drivers side flange and re-weld it angling the header collector a little closer to the block for clearance.
If you have a manual transmission you won’t be able to run the factory clutch z bar setup.
If I had it to do over again, I would probably just convert over to a rack and pinion setup because it would lose most of the slack caused by the rag joint, steering box and steering column.
Thank you!
I thought that i had heard something like that. Time to get cutting.
If your original factory system is not 100% tight, you are in for a surprise. There is a bushing in the '68 and up steering columns that can be replaced that will eliminate all of the slop there, if it is tilt the upper bearings are the source of play and they are replaceable. The rag joint is a n easy fix. If it “tacos” when you turn the wheel it is definitely shot. Steering boxes can be rebuilt and they are tight when not worn out. The rest is just a matter of having good tie rod ends and idler bushings. I had the power rack and pinion on one of my cars and a nearly identical twin car with a fully sorted factory system and they were essentially identical except the R&P would not turn as tight. The front suspension geometry is really the weak link. IN particular there is not enough negative camber to make radial tires work properly.
