The other day a few friends of mine and I were sitting around jaw-jacking about cars (what we do everyday). An interesting question came up. Since there are only 2 Boss 429 Cougars and many Boss 429 Mustangs, did they use the same hoodscoops between the Mustang and Cougar? From checking out pictures online the hoodscoops look the same, but obviously I have never seen one in person. Also, did Ford make any NOS replacement Cougar Boss 429 hoodscoops?? If so,does anyone have one??
Just curious and up for discussion for the good of the order. Sitting around drinking a few cold beers wondering silly Ford facts. Any help would be appreciated.
(I guess I could check my Ford parts book to answer this, but was curious if anyone had some first hand experience.)
Thank you.
The reason I ask is because someone told me they had one, (but sold it)…but since I have had time to think about it and I didn’t personally see it and no one has responded. I am guessing that person was mistaken with a G or GTE or Eliminator scoop, but I don’t know. The person was very knowledgable and knew first hand what a Boss 429 scoop was since there is one on his car everytime he goes out into the garage. Oh well, who knows…
Since Ford didn’t actually produce any Boss 429 Cougars (Kar Kraft built them) for sale to the public, I don’t think there are any part numbers designated for the car. Basically there would be no need to for service parts for cars that would never be placed into service. In many cases specialty replacement parts (like the rear valance on the G car) are to be created by the dealer by modifying existing parts. If there were any Boss 9 Cougar scoops they were probably modified Mustang parts.
True, you make perfect sense. The story I got was the scoop he had was NOS in the Ford box and it had a Cougar part number on it. He claimed he bought it from someone who bought it from a famous Ford driver’s estate. …Too many tangibles in this story on such a one of a kind part makes the story difficult to follow. I wish I could have seen it before he resold it. I know there were NOS Boss 9 scoops out there for Mustangs, (I have seen one, but with a terrible 40 grit feel to the finish and that was from an unopened factory sealed box.) My source owns two Boss 429 cars so I believed him, but maybe it was a G, GTE or eliminator.scoop and he was mistaken. My guess is on the eliminator scoop because they look closer like a Boss scoop than the other two. Anyways, thanks for the discussion. On to more and more.
