Brake booster rod

Hi,

I just replaced my 1968 Midland brake booster with a Bendix brake booster. Is there any difference in the actuating rod to the Master cylinder or pedal as I’m having issues with poor brake, seems to be no power to them?

Thanks

John

In the 68 service manual brake section it tells how to make a measurement gauge for adjusting the rod. I never had a rebuilt that the rod was adjusted correctly. Also some Bendix boosters have a smaller diameter diaphragm then the Midland which could cause less power ‘feel’.

Thanks, I’ll check the manual.

John

67-8 is very different than 69-73 Bendix.

Thanks Don,

I still have my original 68 Midland booster and I believe I replaced it with a 67-68 Bendix. Its been a long time since I fitted it and I can’t remember whether I just swapped the rod from the Midland to the Bendix. Is the rod the same type/size i.e. interchangeable between the two?

No, the 69 Bendix is VERY different and will never fit on a 67-8 Midland.

Ah therein lies the problem then as to why I have poor brakes- I’ll call later today to see if have a rod for a Bendix - Thanks Don

Either that or I send my Midland back for a core swap.

Thanks Don

Checked my original Midland, which I kept in a box, and the rod is still with it. So I have to assume I installed the Bendix with the rod supplied - maybe I didn’t adjust it properly.
