Brake conversion

I have a 1967 cougar with power drum brakes. I also have a 1968 cougar parts car that has power brakes, but discs on the front. Can I take the disc parts from the 1968 parts car and install them on the 1967? The spindles appear the same. Is there anything I should be aware of before attempting this? Thanks

I may be wrong, but I believe the drum spindles are different than the disc spindles. Would be a great time to put new ball joints in.

I’m in agreement that the spindles differ, so use your spindles too.

2 ways to do this. Use your original drum spindles & add the Kelsey Hayes setup( brackets, & 4 piston calipers) or swap the spindles & such from the 68. I usually prefer to do the OE for the year. This allows the person doing work in the future to purchase the “correct” parts- pads, calipers & rotors. I strongly suggest replacing the bearings, as they do not cost much & you are usually replacing original 50 year old ones. I have a strong loyalty to Timkin bearings & MOOG brand suspension parts. Be careful when ordering MOOG parts as they have 2 versions of the parts- economy & the best “CK series vs RK”. best is the “Problem solver” ones (CK).

Another note here, 67 has a different lower control arm due to the strut rod. Again 67 is unique and MOOG does not make a replacement. SO, if you do a swap use the strut rods from the 68 w/ the other 68 stuff- NO using both. Just another reason that a 68 swap is very good idea vs 67

Hope this helps!
