Brake Line replacement

In my restoration of my 69 Mercury Cougar I’ve got all 4 drum brakes and am converting drum brakes to disc. I have removed all the brake lines and brake components. I am going with Wilwood brakes and need advice on which brake lines to use. If you know of where I can find a kit that fits properly, please let me know.

National Parts Depot

Depends on what you’re using for components throughout the system. If it’s a Wilwood master, proportioning valve and disc brake kits, then you’ll probably just have to make your own.

Thanks for the information. There was a company I found that would make the custom lines called Classic Tube. They wanted to know what vehicle and the exact Wilwood package I was purchasing to build the lines for me for around $300.

If Stainless Steel lines, that’s an easy decision.

Are the original major steel lines corroded? Mine were OK, so I didn’t change the primary hard lines, but I did replace the rubber flex lines with steel braid. The short lines to the master cylinder are easy to fabricate with a few basic flaring and bending tools if they’ve been subjected to open end wrenches and backyard techniques so $300 seems like a lot to me.

I tried ordering prebent lines from 4 different vendors and ended up with 4 different sets of brake lines I couldn’t use. They were either correctly bent up front or rear but never both in the same set. It was too expensive to return due to the size of box needed, so I ended up making my own ( I still had my originals albiet rusty) to use as guides to bend new ones. I would probably stay away from stainless because they are hard to flare and not leak. good luck!

As long as you dont cut stainless tubing with a wheel type tubing cutter , they wont crack or split. The only way to heat treat 300 series stainless is to rub on it and thats what a tubing cutter does
Use a dremmel cutter or a 33 tooth hack saw ,deburr inside out and use a little lube on your flairing tool
Good luck

They came in and they look great. I still have to install them when I get my car back from the body and paint guy. Thanks everyone.
