Brand New Repro Parts from WCCC! Dash emblems and more...

You may remember a while back we put up some prototype pictures of 67/8 dash panel emblems, and 69/70 XR-7 door pull strap end pieces. Well, happily, they’re now finished and in stock!

Let’s start off by taking a look at the dash emblems. First of all, props to Bill B. - great job developing these, as always. They are stunning.

Some of you may recall the debate about whether to do the “XR-7” letters in chrome, or in painted satin silver, like the originals. There were compelling arguments for both; some thought the chrome letters would look better and contrast with the satin background nicely, but the all-satin version is more “concours correct.” So, we ended up getting both versions made! See the difference below:

And here’s just a nice shot showing the background texture and quality of the chrome:

More pictures and info here: Satin version or Chrome version

Then of course there’s the standard dash emblem as well, which is of equally high quality. Very cool. More pictures and info here: Standard dash emblems

Next, we have the chrome end pieces that go on the door pull straps for 1969-1970 XR-7’s. They are very nice quality, shiny as can be, and match the originals almost exactly. The main difference you might notice is that the texture on the flat faceplate area is not as rough / brushed as the originals. If anything, it’s too shiny. I’m told that this is being looked into, to possibly be corrected on future runs, but in my opinion they look pretty darn good. Sold in a set of 8 pieces, to do both doors. More pics and info here.

Last but not least, something that isn’t as shiny, but still cool. Sail panels for 1970 standard interior (without opera lights). We have them in black and white. Quality is excellent! XR-7 versions are in development too, as well as 1969 sail panels.

Thanks for looking, and we look forward to hearing your feedback! We can go on all day about how great something is, but it’s worth a lot more to hear you guys say what you think when you have the parts in hand. :ylsuper:

Wow, great looking parts. WCCC rules. :beerchug:

Figures they’re in stock today since my order shipped yesterday. :frowning:

How do the sail panels mount? In the original fashion where the rear window has to be removed or did you make some concession in the design so people could install them with minimal effort? Are they the same thickness as the original? I can’t tell from the pictures what the grain looks like. Do they have the correct texture or are they smooth? Will you also be reproducing the metal ring that the courtesy lights go in for those who are converting their cars to add the lights?

Oohh! Want! Want! Ordering new emblem today. Are the original XR7 emblems stuck on or do I need to pull the dash face off to get the old emblem off?

EDIT: go figure, I should have looked at Don’s website first. As usual, all of the info is right there.

  1. They mount just like original, including the spring clip in the center that slips into the glued in pocket.
  2. Yes, you can lift the wide flange of your rear window seal and with minimal adhesive (maybe none?) install them.
  3. Since these are faced in vinyl, not paper they are a little thicker.
  4. The very faint grain is very close to the original. (more pics on our site)
  5. The metal rings will be done in a week or two as will be the embossed 69 version.
  6. Colors coming soon! Sorry Jeff, no hounds-tooth…

Don as usual, nice stuff. SalD

Hey Jeff, if you didn’t already look at the listing, there are a couple pictures of the back side, and a couple showing the texture. But since you brought it up, I went ahead and did a comparison shot with an original. (Texture is a bit exaggerated due to the flash). You’ll see that it’s slightly different, having a more leather-like appearance with some long grains here and there (upper right on this pic). But for all intents and purposes, it’s pretty close.

Then, to address the thickness question, this should illustrate it pretty well. The new one does indeed seem to be a little thicker than the old ones.

Hope that helps!

Great looking pieces. Like usual job well done WCCC! I like the bright chrome finish on the dash plaques.

Verrrry nice, glad I’ve held off ordering some parts, sail panels will be on my next order.

Your picture reminded me of an old friend of mine who held on to his money so tightly he actually had a few buffalo nickles in his pocket - squeezed his money so tightly the buffalo farted. You like that too?

Don and Andrew, Thanks for answering my questions. They look like very good reproductions. Due to their location, nobody will notice the slight difference in graining.

I did go to the website and find the listing after I posted my questions. Hopefully they prove to fit well and look great once installed.

Good job on getting a part that has been needed for a long time properly reproduced.

I don’t think even I would purchase these in houndstooth, even though they would nicely complement my houndstooth steering wheel center.

My old business partner and I invented copper wire. You see, one day we were walking down the street and saw a penny laying on the ground. We both lunged for it and he ended up grabbing one edge, and I had the other. We both keep a tight grip on our money so as we each pulled on that penny it stretched out like hot cheese on a pizza. The harder we pulled the longer and thinner the copper string became. My partner said "Why’re you such a cheap SOB? I said Why’re you? And so Why’re was invented.

Bill, if you don’t mind, I’m going to cut and paste that joke to my Facebook page. Most of my friends believe that I have the singularly worst sense of humor in the history of mankind. This joke, properly attributed, will disprove the “singularly” modifier.

But it was funny.

And c7xr7, nice ‘cleanup’ of that old joke. The way my oldest brother related it to me (when talking about his son, a tightwad at age 9) was that “Michael squeezes a nickle 'til the buffalo s**ts on the Indian”.
And I’d bet that now-37-yr-old Mike still has his first nickle.

Received my emblem today from wccc. Absolutely beautiful- even better than the pictures. The detail is amazing. I especially love how the argent background has a subtle brushed texture.

Thanks for saying so! We have been selling about one per hour, might prove to be our best selling emblem ever!

I got my dash emblem this morning and it looks great. Detail is excellent and should have the dash pad back in the car
this weekend.

Thanks WCCC.

In case anyone is interested in my lazy redneck, one-minute or less installation method, I simply slid a gasket scraper under the old emblem and gently pried upward until the little prongs on the back broke. The old plastic is brittle so the prongs snap with very little effort. I then poked the remains of the old prongs through the dash with a finishing nail to clear out the holes and used a tiny bit of 3M emblem adhesive to stick on the new emblem. Much easier than pulling the dash apart.

+1 on the pop it off and stick on the new one, at least on XR-7. I did same thing and even when I pulled the dash out, I ended up doing it the same way. I used some small strips of two sided tape.

Can’t wait to see one of those shiny new dash emblems in place of this one!
