I’m looking for black spray paint for my wheel wells. I’ve looked online and have seen many different brands suggested. SEM, Dupli-color and Krylon are just a few I’ve come across. I’m going to weld in some shock tower supports and want to paint the area after welding. What is close to the factory finish? I have gloss POR-15 but I’d like to go with something in black satin or semi-gloss. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I second the VHT roll bar & chassis paint. I have used it for the same application you are looking for as well as numerous miscellaneous parts, it is a very nice satin finish. I am thinking about using it for the engine bay as well.

The finish of the front wheel wells of your car would depend on where the car was built. Of course some of the surface was covered with sound deadener. You restoring the car or just cleaning the look up?
Yes, I was looking for something close to the factory finish. It’s a San Jose car, just looking to clean it up while doing the suspension. I’m going to try some industrial Krylon paint or the VHT suggested. Thanks all!
I have used herculiner in the inner fender aprons where the upper and lower control arms are and I also used the herculiner inside the fenders as well. It helps when if a rock tries to shoot up and dings the paint or chip it. I know its not factory but I used that stuff all over my car as well as other projects and never had a issue at all.

Since your focusing on “close to factory finish” as a base (before the factory sound deadener was applied) any semi-gloss black you choose should work. Just find something that will hold up well to the elements if you will be driving and make sure (might want to disassemble some or more of the attached items) before you do a good cleaning and scuffing of the base you have on the car right now. Doesn’t sound like you planning on stripping it down to metal. By doing this and applying a full even coat over the whole inner fender and shock tower surface facing the fender/ wheel you’ll have an even coat that will look nice and not touched up. Of course your going to remove the fender and such first sine the back side of the fender would not have black paint on it originally. Repairing, touching up or replacing the sound deadener is another task

Eastwood makes a nice paint called chassis black. It’s very close to the Ford 70% gloss black. It comes in quart, gallons, spray cans.
You’ll want to stay away from Krylon and other cheap products. You don’t want it coming back off.
