Brian Carpenter, or others in the know..Ford SD??

What do you all know about the new Powerstroke Fords? I made the mistake of driving a '12 F250 SD last night…wow is it nice!!

I have a 6.0 (04) and know it’s gonna be brutal on the resale value…hmm…

Does anybody have an opinion on the new 6.7 or any nuggets of wisdom? I believe the MPGs would go way up, that’s for sure

Thanks!

B

The mechanics at the local Ford dealership have nothing bad to say about the new 6.7PSD, compared to the POS 6.0 and 6.4PSDs. Very quiet, and no smoke/noise. Lots more power, too! No significant warranty problems. I’ll wait for them to appear on the used market since I can’t afford to drop $50k+ on a new one…

My '97 F-250HD with a 7.5L gas (460) is starting to show it’s age and will probably need to be replaced in a few years… I was thinking either a later 7.3PSD or a newer 6.7PSD.

Cougrrcj, I have had both! A 79 460 and currently a 97 7.3 diesel. If I had the chance to do it over again I would have the 460 all day long. If it were me I would rebuild the 460 and hang onto it. I believe it had the same power as my 7.3 diesel and it would pass any other truck on the road. My 7.3 takes for ever to accelerate! Not much better if any on the gas mileage either. Would be nice to have a 2012 but for the money I will keep my 97.

this is the best info on the net for what you are looking for. Inputs from owners and ford technicians. Been a member for years.

It isn’t the engine that is the problem… Northeast Ohio RUST is! Tailgate is rotten, bottom of both doors are gone… Already had to replace all of the brake lines, power steering lines and trans cooler lines. That, and the trans is acting funny. I don’t even want to think about pulling that E4OD out of there without a trans jack. (Every other trans I do the old fashioned way - I bench-press it into place!) The original exhaust is going, too… Truck just turned 100k miles last week…

At work we have bought 4 - 2011 F-350 crew cabs with the 6.7 in the last two years. No major problems yet… I haven’t really heard of any great mileage increases. Maybe 15 miles per gallon at best, but nothing super outstanding when you consider the purchase price.

We just finished our last 6.0 head-fix last week (I think we have pulled the cabs on atleast 20 trucks in the fleet and repaired Ford’s head problem, throw away the smog EGR and other modifications to make them breath and move like a truck should). We should be good for another 20k miles… …hopefully, actually, we hope to get another 80-100k miles out of them before we upgrade…with high emphasis on “hopefully”.
