My wife wouldn’t ride in the car till I got the A/C working. I was lucky that I found the Vacuum hose dangling when I let the glove compartment door down to inspect in there. I only had to pull the radio to get up in there to reconnect the hose. “WHEW” I had visions of pulling the dash pad again and was NOT looking forward to it.
I have BUG’s on my Windshield! That’s right, the wife & I went on a 100 mile cruise with the A/C on, bugs smashed on the windshield running at 75 mph on the Highway! The car did not overheat (was a bit leery running the A/C) on a 91 degree day, and when i got home I only had A/C condensation on my driveway after sitting for an hour. I consider that a great accomplishment since the car leaked about everything over a year ago.
Now, about those door seals… how bad of a job is that? The wind noise was loud enough to drown out the Cicadas.
The door seals are not too bad. Takes about 10 minutes with the doors off the car or about 2 hours each with the doors on the car. I like to mask off where the contact cement goes but if you are skillful and careful maybe you can just brush it on the doors.
Gauster, the only way that will happen is if they fly into them sideways
Royce, after further review looking to get the seals, I discovered It’s not the door seals I need (they were replaced by the P.O. or are in GREAT condition) it is the Roof Rail Weatherstrip that’s FUBAR.
I humbly ask, how hard are those? (doesn’t look easy).
I would say those are a lot easier depending on how much of the old seals are still left in the stainless channels. You just have to get that old seal off then apply some contact cement to hold the new one. Also apply the cement to the new seal. There is one screw at each side in the front to locate that end. The rear part has to be glued next, then you tuck the seal in place with something like a wooden tongue depressor that won’t cut the rubber.
The part is sized to fit a Mustang. Since the Cougar is longer you have to stretch it some. Might want to try a dry run without glue first to get the hang of it.
Most appreciated, I’ve been scouring the internet and the best I can fins is a 66 Mustang fastback video in 3 parts.
It appears to cover the basics in addition to the Dennis Gauge Classic cars episodes pimping Steele Rubber. 10 minutes of commercial with 2 minutes of actual useful info.
appreciate the help
