I shudder every time I see one of these thinking back to how naive I was when I bought my Cougar and how fortunate I was I didn’t get burned.

I agree with you. I was even hesitant to recheck my undercarriage a year after I bought my car fearing I may find issues but everything checked okay. I too was lucky.
