C-pillar lights on 69

I finally got around to putting in the sail panel/c-pillar panels that I got for Christmas, but am having trouble finding the plug that is supposedly there for the lights. The car did not originally come with them, but my first one did so when I saw how bad the original panels were I put the lighted ones on my list figuring the wiring would at least be there somewhat. I checked the harness from the sequencer up to the back of the door jamb and found no “extra” plugs that would feed the lights. I see there is a separate harness for the pass. side that my car likely doesn’t have, but the notes seem to indicate the left side should have something at least. The car is a San Jose – Oct/Nov 68 – if that changes things at all (I would think not on wiring harnesses, but you never know)

What am I missing ?

Also while I had the interior trim out I noticed that there are some tubes that look like they should have screws in them to hold the lower portion of the panel, but have been covered over. How are these supposed to fasten ? Guessing there’s more than just the screw in the quarter window gasket that originally held these in place.

Hi,
For 1969, the courtesy light group included the rear roof pillar lights, the map light and the trunk & engine compartment lights.
I don’t believe build location had anything to do with it. FWIW, my car, a 69 convertible has the plug for the drivers side light.
I’ve attached a picture of the passenger side wiring. It is about 10’ in length.

Not sure what you are talking about here. Been a while since I had my hardtop, but I don’t remember anything like that. Could you post a picture?

So our 69 XR7 has the C Pillar lights, the map light under the dash above the clock, the trunk light, but no engine compartment light. The Marti report does not say anything about a Courtesy Light package. Was what we have in ours standard on a 69 XR7 and the engine compartment light was the only addition to make it the Courtesy Light package? Where would the engine compartment light plug into?

We have those harness’s under Opera-C pillar light, or you can type in C pillar and it will come up. Part # is 13141. And the engine compartment light is a stand alone harness that comes off the start solenoid on the battery side to a fuse holder up to the light, see PN # 24731 it shows a good picture of the harness.

Wish,
I think you found out the hard way, that there are 2 tail light wiring harness types for Cougar. Those for XR7s, and those for Standards. The XR7 one does have the provision hook ups for the C pillar lights. (yes even XR7 convertibles got these, but they don’t have those lights obviously). The main reason for the difference was for the trunk light and the low fuel light. You will need do either run your own wire, or buy the used harness from West Coast. For the driver’s side, that wire is bundled with all the rest. On the passenger side, it is a seperate wiring harness. Good luck on your quest.
