Camber bolt installation

I am installing a new replacement front suspension on my 1970 Mercury Cougar. I forgot whether the camber bolts go bolt head to the front or to the back. Also, should I apply a light coat of grease to the bolts? Everything is new. Thanks for the help.

Without me going to look, head of bolt to front and nut and lock washer to rear. I will look later when I return to garage.

I just finished a front-end rebuild on my 68 and the camber bolts were installed with the head of the bolt to the rear of the car, but it probably doesn’t make much of a difference either way. BTW, don’t grease the faces of the camber washers- you want lots of friction to keep the bolt from turning after setting the camber.

the 69 ford shop manual shows the head of bolt facing front of car. No grease and after alignment, be sure the nuts are tightttt.

I’m using the squared washers that have three positions that when flipped around allow for multiple settings. Even if the bolts came slightly loose, they don’t lose adjustment. Oh and I have the bolts pointing towards the rear because I just wanted them that way, not that it really should matter.

This isn’t the kit I used, especially since it’s for a Chevy II, and I can’t remember which kit I got, but it looks just like this.

Thanks everyone. I agree it probably doesn’t matter which way they point other than if it is for ease of access to adjust maybe.

These are nice and plan to install a set in my car. More then once the cams have come loose and had to readjust. New cams and bolts would probably prevent that from happening but I like the fact with these you can set it where you want and not worry about it coming loose ever.

Nut to the rear.

Unless otherwise specified bolts always go in from the front and nuts always are installed at the rear. No grease since they don’t ever move again until next time someone rebuilds the front end twenty years from now.

Thanks. I took it apart months ago and should of taken a picture.
