Ordered a comp cam for Mt weak 289 4 barrel today.
A 477/484 256/268 duration an new hyd lifters. What yall think??
Sounds sensible. What are you doing for the valves, springs, guides, and retainers?
Specs make it seem ok for a street driven 289 but there are other variables. Can you link to a cam card or say the exact part number and where it is coming from? Are you planning on different intake, exhaust, carburetor too? What rear axle ratio? Tire diameter?
Royce, I think he chose the Comp XE256H, adv 256/268, .050 duration 212/218. LSA 110°, lift .477/.484
Comp’s 942 single spring, one of the several 340 lb/in singles around the market that give about 110 lb seat pressure at 1.8, is their recommendation.
R.B that sounds about right. I am sitting on frt porch an not gone out to the shop yet.
I posted or thought I did about just gonna bump this 289 up a bit before installing ac. I will be pulling a 351 and auto tranny out of a 70 Cougar and rebuilding both.
At that time I will address cam, carb, intake, headers and a blower. Rear axle from 3:00 to 3:73
Thanks for the replys

I’ve never used that cam. It has so little lift that it might be OK with stock (brand new) valve springs. With 50 + year old valve springs I would just throw them away and get new ones.
The mildest I ever used was a Comp 260H in a 1966 Shelby. It had a 289 with the stock (Shelby) aluminum intake, 715 CFM Holley, and Tri - Y headers in front of a top loader and 3.89 : 1 gears. It was fun to drive and handled adding factory under dash AC just fine.
Royse you are right I will replace the valve springs.
Thanks
.
Ok gentleman the cam is part #249-cl31-234-3 springs locks an retainers 350-5825, 350974,955205 ihope this will get the job done. Let me know if I left something out
Well Jegs just informed me and I confirmed with comp cams, there are no cam blanks to make camshfts!!! My order is eta unknown #@$$%%
Any ideas for cams?
One I know because I used in it a 302 is the Lunati 10350700. Call them direct at 662-892-1500 and see if they can set you up. See if you get Will Vance.
It was good for 15 flat using a low compression rebuilder short block 302 (iron heads) in my 3470 lb '68 with C4 and 3.40 gears. 17 in Hg vacuum at idle, no small factor with our cars that have 2000 ft of vacuum plumbing.
R.B.
Well trying to call been on hold 45 min! !
