I’ve been thinking about adding to my Cougar collection by purchasing a 1970 Mercury Cougar Convertible and I was wondering if anyone here can decipher the vin # and get additional info about the car? I will eventually do a Marti Report but for the time being and any info would be greatly appreciated. Is this an M code car? If so, what does that mean?
That VIN decodes as a 1970 Standard Convertible built in Dearborn with the M code 351C 4V engine. You would need the door tag and buck tag codes for a further decoding of how the car was originally equipped.
Well I did the Marti Report and here are the results… I was pleasantly suprised that is has a competition suspension… Marti Report for the 70 Cougar.pdf (172 KB)
Yes however the previous owner changed the color to white which also looks good against the blue interior. Here are some pics… Its needs a serious bath…
VERY cool I noticed the Marti said “Order Type: Retail”. So, iirc, that would mean someone walked into the dealership and selected all those options when they put in thier order for the car. I bet they knew exactly what they wanted in order to cruise in style.
I wonder what stories the original owner could tell about that car…
I’m now looking for either a new rear window for the top and have it reinstalled and a top switch since mine is missing. Anybody have this these items that they will part with?? The top itself is salvageable.
