Why do you need first 5 numbers of vin?

Because that verifies the model and the engine…not sure how that would have anything do with theft??? That would not be the unique part of the VIN (the first 5 digits)…

The first five digits of the VIN at least verifies to me that it’s just a plain jane “C” code 289 2bbl car. Nothing against it being that, but the first five digits is always the important part for me. If it was an “A” code it would be a 289 4bbl car.
