This topic has probably been beat to death but has anyone ever sent their carb to Holley Custom speed shop for complete restoration? My thoughts are that, well, it’s Holley and they built it, so they would be the ones to do it correctly and put the proper coating/plating back on it, correct screws, clips, etc. and make it right. I did call them and was quoted 345 bucks for total restoration. I guess I just was wondering if anyone had gone this route or have better suggestions. Its a DOZF-9510-AA. They did tell me there was a 90 day turn around, so to plan ahead.
All American Carburetors in FL remanufactured my D0OF-9510-AC Autolite 4300 and did an outstanding job. It looked like new and worked perfectly the first try - which is not easy for the 4300 (they prefer to work on Holleys, and I wish I had one). Cost was about $300 including lifetime guarantee and shipping. The lifetime guarantee really paid off for me since it had to go back for sediment clean out twice before I finally replaced the fuel system.
Recently I help w/ a Shelby GT500 restoration. The owner sent in his carb to Holley. It came back w/incorrect bowl bolts, no stampings, and just a mediocre finish/assembly. Another carb went to Joe Butneic (spelling?) a Boss 302. It came back in amazing show condition. Correct finishes & stamping. The carb was set up for altitude (6000+). Once installed that cat runs stronger than it has possibly ever! Pulls strong all the way to 7K+
He is NOT cheap, but why spend money just to get part of the way. If your doing a show quality restoration, then this really is a no brainer. Pass on Holley. Curious about what other people (Royce?) may use, as these specialist’s are getting older…
I have a carb coming back from Joe Bunetic right now. Joe worked at Holley long ago when they were in Kentucky. He got a job with USPS and only restored Holley carburetors as a side business for the past 35 years. He retired from USPS a few years ago and now does carbs full time.
I think the Holley custom shop is capable of making an old Holley function properly if you don’t care about appearance.
Joe Bunetic is the man! ford6vcarburetion.com/home/joe-bunetic. He worked with Ford on the tri-powers for the FE. He’s got to be in his 70’s. He helped me with the correct side hung float bowls for my 351C tripower! Great guy!
Anyone know what his typical turn around time is (Joe that is)?
Mine took two months but that was partly delayed by Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years holidays. Plus I sent him a POS.
+1 for Joe. He did a fantastic job on mine as well!!
So who does the 4300 Autolite resto’s?
Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll give Joe a call…
