Carpet Color

The carpet in my 69 cougar with an aqua and parchment interior was more of a bright aqua when I got the car in 2000. When it was painted in 2008 the carpet put in, which I think was a dark aqua, looked more like a faded dark blue. That carpet has already faded even though the car is kept covered in the garage when not being driven. Does anyone know the correct carpet color for this combination? I just started taking sthe dash apart to get to the heater fan. In the spring it sounded like there was an acorn in the squirel wheel. It was fine when parked last winter. I need to get in to see if something got in or if something broke inside. No signs of mice or other animals in the car.

Your best bet would be to reference the old carpet if you still have it. Look for an area that was covered originally. Like under the console or under the seat. These areas would be the least “weathered” and would give you the best idea of a color target.

Here’s a coupon of various colors and the codes/names assigned by those Mustang guys. Folks here may be able to determine the Mercury crossover.

Unfortunately I don’t have any original carpet. I don’t think the carpet in the car when I bought it 20 years ago was original, but I don’t have any. Thanks for posting the color chart.

Believe it or not I was in the exact same situation. I got my Cougar only a couple years ago. The carpet was a brownish color and the interior saddle. Once I pulled it out it was clear that the original color was black. However it didn’t appear to be a factory carpet since I had an o-ring around the high-beam headlight floor switch. Faded so bad that is turned brown. Black with saddle didn’t seem to make sense to me so I went with a medium brown. I have black floor mats so overall it works well for a cruiser.

I have a 69 with a Aqua Interior. I replaced the carpet with the WCCC mass backed Kit and I am very happy with it and the Color is a good match.

WCCC P/N 42444 CARPET KIT - COUPE - ‘AQUA’ / MEDIUM AQUA - OEM STYLE - REPRO

That looks great. I think the medium aqua may be the way to go. What did you use for the underlayment?

I used Heater Duct insulation from Home Depot. About the same as Boom Mat, but a hell of a lot less expensive.
