So I replaced the fuel tank, sending unit, fuel filter, cleaned out the carb and replaced the fuel pump with a new Carter M6962.
Ran like dog poop. It was like the engine was being flooded. I took an OTC fuel pressure gauge from my fuel injection kit and measured 21 psi. That can’t be right so I used my Mr. Gasket gauge that reads from 0-15 psi. Pegged it.
I called Carter Tech Support and Bob admitted that they had a whole run of M6962 pumps with an over pressurizaton issue.
I’ll be looking tor another pump now.
