Can someone who has installed the headlight cover conversion kit tell me how long the rod is that the heim joints are screwed into?
Mine is about 6 and a quarter inches though it can be extended since the heim joints are on screws.
Unfortunately it does not appear to be long enough for it to extend from the bottom bracket to the top when the headlight cover shaft is in the open position. As such when I finish installation the headlights are closed when I think they should be open.
I was sent a longer shaft already and before I asked the inventor again I would just like to see what others have since the device has different shafts for different cars.
Thanks
69/70 Cougars “interchange” parts for the grills. Meaning, they fit, look similar, but are different.if the arm is too short there is a very good chance you have some mix match 70 parts. Just let me know how much longer the arm needs to be.
Post some pics.
On a 69 Cougar, the motor arm is positioned at the ~5 o’clock position. There is a hole in the mount, or possibly a bolt located there. That is the “closed position”. You will have to pull your headlight covers down (close) to connect the arm.
Thanks for the prompt reply. Motor is at 5oclock where red dot and hole are. In the WCCC video the covers are open when the bar is being installed and the spring seats to close it are installed afterwards. The lever to connect appears to be in the lower position now that I look again
The length hole to hole is about 8” when closed and 10” when open.
I reread the instructions and have now connected the rod with the covers closed so I’m set for now thanks.
I’m having issues with my install. I installed new bushings all the way across and have very straight grille alignment, so I’m fairly certain my problems are not there.
I had to extend the turnbuckle shaft from the electric motor to the headlight door pivot shaft to near both limits on both ends to get it to attach. The doors open, but won’t close when the switch is turned off. Looking at the mechanism, it appears the turnbuckle shaft and pivot shaft are binding at the top of stroke and preventing the motor from finishing the rotation to the closed position.
Anyone have similar experience? I have an email out to Catheadlights, but figured I’d cover my bases here as well. Thanks as always for listening!
