Center console restoration

Hi,
I’m planning to change the carpet so it’s the perfect opportunity for a “while i’m there …” … so while i have the center console out, i’d like to to a little restoration / clean up and i have a few preliminary questions after looking at its current state and browsing WCCC and NPD … for context, car is a early 67 base. I haven’t taken the console out yet, only doing some research so far …

  • there seems to be a light in the storage compartment, how is that light activated ? is there a switch on the shutter ? do you recommend a LED replacement (if available ?)
  • same question about the light at the back of the console ? (I have never seen these lights work)
  • the black paint on the surrounding of the ashtray is almost all gone, what paint do you recommend to restore it ?
  • the console itself has discolored pretty significantly, it was a parchment/white but it is now very yellow. would a dye spray work to bring it back to original color ?

The light comes on with the interior lights. Turning the headlight switch or opening the door.

The lights are activated with the other courtesy lights. When doors open or light switch. Yes you can put led bulbs in. The wiring harness u der the console should connect to the blue connector with black wires with blue stripe which should be located forward of console right next to fuse block(positive wire/and other wire ground on tunnel). You can use vinyl paint on console.
