Centre console removal.....HOW???

In my quest to remove my carpet I have now come stuck on removing the centre console. I have removed all the screws I can see along the sides, removed the 2 screws that goes into the dash above the radio, removed the knobs from my hi-tech 80’s Jensen radio. My next step is to remove the top bit of the auto shifter. The whole console is loose, is it just the matter of taking the top bit off the shifter? Are there any hidden stuff up under the dash? I dont want to break anything so any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

Regards Zakk

Did you get the two screws that you can only access by removing the ashtray on the rear of the console?

No I did not, but i can lift the whole console clear at the rear, ashtray and all, is the console a two piece unit, I.E one on top of the other? Or will you be able to take it all out in one go? It’s around the dash/shifter area its “stuck” at the moment.

If your console is the same as mine (68 XR7) then you can lift the rear of the console just a little bit without removing the two screws inside the rear ashtray opening but you won’t be able to get it off without removing them. There are two separate pieces, the vertical one that goes upward over the radio and rallye clock, and the horizontal piece that goes over the shifter and toward the back seat. Gotta remove that vertical piece first, it’s just held in with two screws at the top and then four push/pull clips.

Thanks tmh, I’ll look at it tomorrow

Stand by for more questions then…

 its so un-cool that its actually cool (if you know what I mean). Its deffo a keeper tho
