For those of you in the Chicago area, our town sponsored cruise nights start tonight with the Friday night cruise in downtown Downers Grove. Tonight’s feature is Big 3 Orphans, covering both of my favorite cars Mercurys and Pontiacs as well as Oldmobile and Plymouth.
Other notable town sponsored cruises in the Western 'burbs are
Lombard - Saturday night starts June 2
Lemont - Wednesday night starts June 6 ends August 29
Elmhurst - Wednesday night starts June 6 ends August 22
Maybe we’ll see you out there. I’m bringing the blue '68 GTO this week and I’ll try to park with the feature cars on Curtiss.
Woah! That’s like two or three towns over from me. And I have no plans for tonight.
This may sound really stupid, but how does something like this work? Drive me car to this area and park it and hang out or walk around or something? I’ve never been to one so kinda don’t really know how they work.
Yep, just bring your car, park it and wander around looking at other stuff or hang out by your car. This one along Downers Grove’s Main St south of the Burlington tracks in the downtown area plus a couple of cross streets and parking lots. Curtiss is a cross street where they let the featured cars park. I’ll be going over there at 4:00pm but people hang until 9:00. We usually get 150-250 cars, my best guess. This is the 20th year for this cruise, its a lot of fun.
I had a great time as well, aside from getting really ill for about 10 minutes out of the blue. It was very strange. Maybe my body just couldn’t handle being around that much awesome?
I’ll try and make it next weekend if I can. Got the new valve covers installed today, and the Pertronix Ignitor II, and finally got my vacuum gauge (in place of the rally clock) up and running. By next weekend maybe I can finish my wheels so they look a little less goofy.
Hey Ed where in Elmhurst are the shows?
Im going to Elmhurst College for my masters degree, Ill be there on monday nights but its only 15 min away from work, Id be able to swing by on a Wed night occasionaly.
The Elmhurst cruise is in their downtown along the street 1 block west of York, just north of the RR tracks. There are a couple of parking lots on the west side of the street.
