Anybody have experience with the chin spoiler (the “with bumper guard” version) they sell at WCCC? Got any pics of one installed?
The fact that their own description of it says it doesn’t fit well, I dunno, makes me kind of… hesitant.

Look at the front of mine. I have the chin spoiler but it didn’t come from WCCC. They weren’t even in business yet when we “installed” mine.
It had the cutouts for the bumper guards even though my car never had them. Like most everything else, they were smoothed over.
Installation on mine wasn’t for the faint of heart. Many know the long story but the short of it is, we cut it into multiple pieces and fit each piece individually to get it to fit right. Then the whole thing was fiberglassed over to get it back into one piece, and for strength. But that’s not the end of it. We also had to modify the front bumper brackets so that the bumper can be R&R’d with the valance and spoiler still in place. In fact my whole front clip, minus the hood, is now one piece.
Mark you ever get hassled for having the plate partially covered?
No. Most guys don’t even run a front plate in Ohio where it is illegal not to.
Illegal to not run a front plate here in Illinois as well. Still not sure if I’m gonna try the chin spoiler or not. There’s the front plate and turn signals, both of which it seems like it would be problematic with. And there’s the fact that on the page where WCCC is trying (presumably) to sell the thing, they say it isn’t a good fit. But they look so damn good. What to do…
WCCC is totally honest if they think a part they offer is not up to snuff. That’s rare to find in a business today but much appreciated. Some guys absolutely HAVE TO HAVE those parts so that’s why I believe they continue to offer those items.
tmh… check out myhighschoolxr7. His car has an aftermarket front spoiler which I’m pretty sure is GM based… Camaro maybe. It looks really good on his car and would be no where near as involved to install as the one like mine.

Scroll up earlier in the thread and he describes his installation method.
I’m here now too - thanks for posting that link Hero. My front spoiler method is definitely much easier than yours! (But I still like yours better.) I still like the look I got so no regrets so far, but really there is also very little permanent “damage” if I were to decide to nix the spoiler in the future. And, on the subject of front license plates - here in Oregon we are required to have a front plate normally, but collector/special interest cars are not required to run a front license plate. I am still using the original license plate on the back of my car, with the special interest sticker where there would normally be an expiration date sticker.
From what I understand of Illinois law, every car has to have two plates, period. But then, as my dad pointed out to me, “show me one Corvette with a front plate on it”. I guess it kinda comes down to a gamble, if you’re willing to take it or not, if you think you’ll pull it off.
I like the idea of putting on whatever chin spoiler you like, in whatever way makes the most sense to you. The breakaway/non-destructive method is particularly brilliant. I’m still not sure if there’s a spoiler out there that’s better looking to me than the Eliminator one.
That’s correct tmh. I run an R model front valence on my 65 Mustang 2+2. The cops told me I needed the plate displayed…and not in the windshield. I actually have a pic of the event with the cruiser behind my old 'stang. Turned out the gentleman had a 63 1/2 Galaxie in the works.
Way back in the 1980’s, I put one of those front spoilers on my 1st 1967 Cougar. It looked pretty nice in my opinion (see photo below - ignore the Firebird on the hood - LOL), even without the bumper guards. Would I put it on my Cougar now? Probably not. If you want a front spoiler, go with the 1969 Cougar Eliminator (black plastic) front spoiler. It can’t be painted body color, but it still looks pretty good. The only place to get the correct Cougar front spoiler is Ken’s Cougars as far as I know. I’ve never put a 1969 spoiler on a 1967 Cougar, but it should fit fine.
My car is black so the non-paintable aspect of it isn’t a problem. There can’t be a “correct” spoiler for a '68 since they didn’t exist yet at that point. The one on the WCCC website, that I linked in my first post, is a new production spoiler designed for the '68, if I have understood correctly. Shouldn’t that fit better than a '69? They made changes between '68 and '69, is the bumper not one of them? I know they made changes in the front end, just not sure if the bumper may have remained the same.
The older versions of the chin spoiler seemed to go to far forward for my taste. The one on the Eliminator is just about perfect placement wise. I can’t comment on fit issues as I have not personally done one of these. One concern I have is that the hoods on Cougars tend to fly up pretty often. It would probably be a good idea to make sure that a spoiler didn’t aggravate this problem.
I already want to add hood pins. Hood pins with keyed locks on them. Is it hard to add hood pins?
And please tell me more about this hood flying up issue!! It seems pretty important.
I had the hood come up on my first Cougar when I was in high school. It happened at night shortly after leaving a traffic light. Speed was low so there was no body damage. I had my license for about six months at the time, needless to say very scary. My hood was down at the time but must not have been fully latched and it just popped up. Today after closing the hood I lift hard on both sides of the center nose area of the hood to make sure the hood latch is secure. This should not be a problem if you plan on using hood pins.

I read and saw pics where some had used 68 Camaro front spoiler and it looked pretty good. Got one for mine and have had it held up there in place and it looks like and easy fit. Will get in mounted when the get the car back from paint and shoot a pic or two.
We just came up with a VERY good fit for the 67-68. Click hear to see our new front air dam.
